ASIATODAY.ID, SEOUL – Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Moeldoko met with Member of the South Korean National Assembly, Hong Moon Pyo at the Korean National Assembly Building in Seoul, South Korea, Monday, November 27 2023.

On that occasion, Moeldoko and Hong Moon Pyo discussed opportunities for young Indonesian farmers to work in South Korea with the concept of learning by working or learning while working.

“So they (young farmers) can learn, but still get wages from their work,” said Moeldoko at the event, as quoted from a press release in Jakarta.

The meeting was also attended by a number of members of the Korean National Assembly and South Korean entrepreneurs in the agriculture and energy sectors. They discussed cooperation plans that would take bilateral relations between the two countries to a higher level.

The meeting was not only a moment to celebrate 50 years of cooperation between South Korea and Indonesia, but also a stage for detailing plans for future cooperation.

The main focus of the talks involved agriculture, green energy, and the application of digital technology in the agricultural sector.

In the context of commemorating half a century of cooperation, Moeldoko presented the road map that had been prepared by President Joko Widodo, which marked Indonesia’s commitment to achieving a Golden Indonesia by 2045, a country celebrating a century of independence with a per capita income exceeding US$23 thousand.

Moeldoko also conveyed the idea of sending young Indonesian farmers to South Korea through the Maju Tani Nusantara organization. This step aims to provide young Indonesian farmers with the opportunity to gain modern agricultural knowledge from South Korea, as well as experience the transformation of modern agricultural science and technology.

According to him, this step can be continued with investment from South Korea in the field of modern agriculture, so that Indonesia can meet the need for tropical fruit for the South Korean market.

Moeldoko highlighted South Korea’s steps to start cultivating the Tongil variety of rice in 1961, and succeeded in achieving self-sufficiency within ten years.

Currently, said Moeldoko, Indonesia is in the innovation stage of research to develop superior M70D rice seeds, which promises results at 70 days of rice age or 20 days sooner with double the national average production.

Meanwhile, Hong Moon Pyo expressed his highest appreciation for the efforts of Indonesia, especially Moeldoko, in establishing agricultural cooperation with South Korea.

According to him, Indonesia has great potential because of its vast land area, large number of farmers, and readiness for digital technology.

“Indonesia is a potential partner that can help South Korea develop modern agriculture,” said Hong.

Hong also welcomed opportunities for deeper cooperation, especially to open up opportunities for young Indonesian farmers.

He hopes that this meeting can be the beginning for young Indonesian farmers to learn by doing, taking advantage of South Korea’s experience and success in developing modern agriculture.

This meeting marks the first step towards closer cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea in the fields of agriculture and green energy. Both countries affirmed their commitment to creating a bright and sustainable future. (AT Network)
