ASIATODAY.ID, PANGKAL PINANG — The Government of Indonesia under President Prabowo Subianto has launched a powerful offensive against the country’s mining mafia, in what is now recognized as the most significant state asset recovery in the history of Indonesia’s extractive sector.
At the PT Tinindo Internusa smelter in Pangkal Pinang, October 6, 2025, President Prabowo personally witnessed the handover of State Confiscated Assets (BRN) from illegal mining operations within the concession area of PT Timah Tbk, Indonesia’s largest tin producer.
The handover proceeded in a formal chain — from the Attorney General to the Vice Minister of Finance, then to the CEO of Danantara, and finally to the President Director of PT Timah Tbk.
“This morning, we witnessed the handover of state-confiscated assets from private companies that violated the law. The state must never again remain silent while the people’s resources are stolen,” President Prabowo declared before reporters after the ceremony.
The recovered assets represent an unprecedented seizure — valued between Rp6 and Rp7 trillion (US$370–430 million) — excluding the rare earth minerals (monazite) whose global market value could be exponentially higher.
The confiscated items include: 108 heavy equipment units, 99.04 tons of crystalized tin (Sn), 94.47 tons of crude tin (112 bars), 44 tons of aluminum, 29 tons of refined tin, 195 mining tools, 6 smelter units, 53 vehicles, 22 land plots totaling 238,848 m², 1 employee housing complex, and cash deposits equivalent to Rp202.7 billion, including USD3.15 million, JPY53 million, and SGD524,000.
President Prabowo revealed that illegal mining in PT Timah’s operational area had caused state losses of up to Rp300 trillion (US$19 billion) over the years — a massive economic leak that must be stopped immediately.
“From just six companies, state losses have reached around Rp300 trillion. This must end — now,” the President asserted.
Prabowo Warns: “The Era of Illegal Mining Ends Here”
President Prabowo extended his highest appreciation to the Attorney General’s Office, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), the Navy, the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), and the Customs Directorate for their swift, coordinated actions in seizing back state assets stolen through illegal mining.
“I thank all agencies — the Attorney General, the Armed Forces, the Navy, Bakamla, and Customs — for acting decisively. Hundreds of trillions of rupiah can now be safeguarded for the people,”
said the President.
He emphasized that the government will show no leniency toward lawbreakers, regardless of their status or connections.
“The government is determined to eradicate smuggling, illegal mining, and all economic crimes. We will uphold justice — no matter who stands behind them,” Prabowo declared firmly.
Restoring Resource Sovereignty and Sustainable Mining Governance
The handover of confiscated assets to PT Timah Tbk represents a turning point in Indonesia’s natural resource governance, reaffirming the state’s control over strategic commodities like tin and rare earth minerals.
“This is a great achievement. I ask the Attorney General, the Armed Forces, Customs, and Bakamla to continue their work. Let us protect the nation’s wealth — for our people,” President Prabowo concluded.
Under Prabowo’s leadership, Indonesia is entering a new era of resource sovereignty — one where environmental law enforcement, sustainable mining, and economic justice stand as the pillars of national development. (AT Network)
