ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has updated the casualty figures from the devastating floods and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, confirming 916 fatalities as of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
The number of people reported missing stands at 274, while 4,200 others have been injured.
The destruction is widespread. BNPB reports:
1,300 public facilities damaged
199 health facilities affected
697 schools destroyed or unusable
420 houses of worship damaged
234 government buildings impacted
405 bridges collapsed or washed away
This marks one of the most severe disasters to hit Sumatra in the past decade.
Prabowo Orders Rapid Restoration of Electricity and Transport Links
President Prabowo Subianto convened an emergency coordination meeting at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, on Saturday night to accelerate national response efforts.
According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Prabowo issued a firm directive: all power supply across the affected regions must be restored no later than Sunday night.
West Sumatra is nearly fully powered.
Parts of North Sumatra, including Langkat and Tapanuli, remain dark.
Several areas in Aceh are still experiencing outages.
Prabowo also instructed authorities to: reopen blocked roads and build temporary bridges, ensure swift distribution of fuel and logistics, and maintain real-time situational updates from the ground.
Special attention has been ordered for Takengon and Bener Meriah, where land access remains completely cut off.
Emotional Scene in Aceh
A deeply emotional moment unfolded at a refugee camp in Bireuen, Aceh, on Sunday, December 7, 2025, when a flood survivor broke down while speaking to President Prabowo.
“The river took my home, sir. I have nothing left,” the woman cried.
Prabowo placed a hand on her shoulder and responded gently, “Stay strong… stay strong.”
During the visit, he inspected the communal kitchen, spoke with volunteers, and checked the availability of essential supplies. The President also tasted the refugees’ lunch—rice and tuna—to ensure food quality and readiness.
Government Shifts Toward Recovery and Reconstruction Phase
Entering the second week of the disaster, Indonesia is now preparing the transition from emergency response to rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said national forces—Basarnas, the military, police, local governments, and volunteers—remain fully mobilized.
Prabowo has emphasized that recovery planning must not wait:
