ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Russian Investigative Committee has detained 11 people after gunmen stormed the Moscow Crocus City Hall on March 22 2024 and opened fire on the crowd on Friday, March 22 2024.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said four of those detained were directly involved in the attack. Russia suspects the attack was connected to Ukraine, although ISIS claimed responsibility.
“The four suspects were detained in the Bryansk region in western Russia, not far from the border with Ukraine,” said the Russian Investigative Committee, Saturday, March 23, 2024.
The attack came just days after Putin tightened his grip on power through a highly planned election. Shortly after the attack, several Russian lawmakers accused Ukraine of being behind it.
Advisor to the President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, denied the accusations. “Ukraine has never used terrorist methods,” he wrote on the X platform.
133 People Killed
The Russian Investigative Committee noted that the death toll in the terror attack had risen to 133 people.
The latest information from Russia’s Investigative Committee comes after authorities combed through the charred ruins of Moscow’s Crocus City Hall in search of more victims.
Previously, Russian authorities put the death toll in the attack at 115 people. The attack also left many people injured.
The Islamic State group in Afghanistan claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement posted on social media.
In his speech on Saturday, March 23, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said authorities had detained 11 people, including four people directly involved in the attack. They tried to cross the border into Ukraine in what he said was an attempt to create a “window” to help them escape.
Ukraine strongly denies involvement in the attack and accuses Moscow of using the attack to try to foment war. (ATN/Newswire)
