ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – A delegation from the Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF) Thailand visited the upstream oil and gas data management storage, the Pertamina Upstream Data Center for Energy and Mineral Resources Data and Information Technology, South Tangerang.
This visit was in order to study the types of data managed as well as the management mechanisms and services for utilizing upstream oil and gas data in Indonesia.
“We would like to thank the Thai delegation for entrusting us with benchmarking or comparative studies for the management of upstream oil and gas data in Indonesia. We are also fully aware that this visit does not mean that Indonesia in terms of data management is more advanced than Thailand. In fact, in the forum “This is where we can share knowledge on how to manage upstream oil and gas data in Indonesia,” said the head of the Center for Data and Information Technology for Energy and Mineral Resources, Chrisnawan Anditya, Wednesday, August 27 2024.
Chrisnawan promised that one day his party would also make a return visit to find out about data management in Thailand.
“We want to know what the condition of data management is in Thailand. What we are doing is not perfection, but an improvement over time. Of course we want to get knowledge sharing from the Thai Government in managing upstream oil and gas data,” continued Chrisnawan.
DMF Thailand itself is a unit under the Thai Ministry of Energy which has the task of implementing mineral and oil and gas exploration and production in Thailand. The DMF delegation consists of 7 personnel led directly by the Director of Information and Communication Center, Mr. Anuchit Limsuat. During this visit, DMF was also accompanied by representatives of Medco E&P Thailand and Medco E&P Indonesia as one of the owners of the Oil and Gas Working Area (WK) in Thailand.
DMF wants to know and study the types of data managed as well as the management mechanisms and services for utilizing upstream oil and gas data in Indonesia.
One of the focuses of the discussion is how to handle rock sample data, such as cores and cuttings in Indonesia. Rock sample data is data that cannot yet be fully digitized, so it must continue to be stored. On the one hand, the volume of rock sample data is increasing so that physical storage requirements also continue to increase. This is what DMF is concerned about.
Obligation to Standardize Oil and Gas Data
In the knowledge sharing session, the Center for Data and Information Technology for Energy and Mineral Resources conveyed the importance of data standardization to integrate upstream oil and gas data. This is important because there are various data formats.
“Oil and gas data has various types, different formats and unequal completeness structures. In the framework of integrated data management, standardization is a mandatory thing that must be done,” Chrisnawan.
Chrisnawan further stated that the Center for Data and Information Technology for Energy and Mineral Resources conveyed three stages of standardization implementation.
First, implementing standardization at the stage of submitting oil and gas data to the Government.
Second, implementing oil and gas data standardization for data that is still managed by stakeholders.
Finally, system to system integration of all oil and gas data when the first and second stages are complete.
Regarding the use of existing oil and gas data, Chrisnawan explained that interested people or business entities can submit applications for use online. (AT Network)
