ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The escalating armed conflict along the Thailand–Cambodia border has drawn serious concern from the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian Parliament, Mardani Ali Sera, expressed deep concern over the situation and called for a peaceful resolution through diplomacy and regional cooperation under ASEAN.
The violence has not only left grief in both nations but also raised alarm over the stability of the Southeast Asian region.
“Indonesia believes that no issue is beyond the reach of dialogue. A single step toward peace can save thousands of lives,” Mardani Ali Sera stated in an official release from Jakarta quoted on Friday, July 25, 2025.
BKSAP Urges ASEAN to Take Active Mediation Role
BKSAP emphasized that the core spirit of ASEAN as a community promoting peace, stability, and regional cooperation must be upheld. In the spirit of unity and solidarity, the Indonesian Parliament urged all ASEAN member states to respond constructively to the crisis.
“BKSAP calls on ASEAN countries to utilize regional forums as platforms for dialogue and peaceful mediation,” Mardani asserted.
As a key member of ASEAN, Indonesia stands ready to support any initiative aimed at achieving a ceasefire and restoring mutual trust between Thailand and Cambodia.
Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to regional peacebuilding. The country upholds the principle that “One enemy is too many, a thousand friends are never enough” — a philosophy seen as a foundation for a united and peaceful Southeast Asia.
With tensions continuing to rise, the diplomatic role of parliaments and regional organizations such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and BKSAP becomes increasingly crucial in de-escalating the conflict and facilitating a comprehensive peaceful solution. (AT Network)
