ASIATODAY.ID, BALI – The 10th World Water Forum in Bali officially ended on Friday, May 24 2024. A record 64,000 people visited the largest water forum in the world.
The Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, said that Indonesia as the host of the 10th World Water Forum had surpassed Brazil in terms of the number of visits to the international forum which is held every three years. Meanwhile, the number of visitors to the World Water Forum in Brazil was recorded at 40,000 people.
Basuki assessed that the high enthusiasm of the World Water Forum participants was triggered by the attractiveness of Bali which is synonymous with the beauty of its tourism.
“There is a time to say hello, there is a time to say goodbye. I hereby officially declare that the 10th World Water Forum is officially closed,” said Basuki at the Bali International Convention Center, Friday, May 24 2024.
Basuki then expressed his thanks to the World Water Council and all parties involved in this international event.
He also revealed a series of achievements from the water forum held from 18-25 May 2024 in Bali.
First, the 10th World Water Forum has produced a Ministerial Declaration agreed by 80 countries which contains three points of commitment to overcoming the global water crisis. Later the Ministerial Declaration will be brought to the United Nations Water Conference.
Furthermore, the 10th World Water Forum in Bali also agreed to establish a Center of Excellence of Water Resources Management and Climate Resilience, especially efforts to overcome the water crisis in the southern region of the Earth, including small islands and developing countries.
Then, the largest water forum also agreed on 113 water-related projects worth US$9.4 billion as a form of concrete action in overcoming the water crisis in various parts of the world.
The 10th World Water Forum also succeeded in giving birth to the idea of World Lakes Day as a form of attention to the condition of lakes and sustainability efforts.
“President Jokowi summarized everything into one word, collaboration to manage water as well as possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesia in today’s closing ceremony officially handed over the chairmanship of the World Water Forum to Saudi Arabia. In this way, the 11th World Water Forum will be held in that country in 2027.
“I hope our friends from Saudi Arabia will continue this collaboration, and I wish them success in holding the 11th World Water Forum in Bali,” added Basuki. (ATN)
