ASIATODAY.ID, TAIPEI — Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has welcomed the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 (NDAA 2026) by US President Donald Trump, describing the legislation as a major step in strengthening Taiwan’s security and strategic position.

The NDAA 2026 explicitly includes provisions supporting Taiwan, ranging from enhancing defense capabilities and resilience, expanding Taiwan–US security cooperation, to backing Taiwan’s international participation.

The act also provides a legal framework, financial resources, and policy instruments to deepen cross-sector collaboration between Taipei and Washington in support of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung expressed appreciation for the completion of the NDAA 2026 legislative process and extended special thanks to the bipartisan US Congress for its sustained and strong support for Taiwan’s security and the Taiwan–US strategic partnership.

“The NDAA 2026 reflects the United States’ tangible commitment to Taiwan’s security and regional stability,” Lin said on December 22, 2025.

MOFA emphasized that, in line with Taiwan’s overall national policy, it will continue to maintain close communication with the US Congress and executive agencies, while actively advancing the concrete implementation of all pro-Taiwan provisions contained in the NDAA 2026.

These efforts aim to further deepen the Taiwan–US strategic partnership and safeguard prosperity and stability across the Indo-Pacific.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) also welcomed the US government’s concrete actions through the enactment of the legislation. The NDAA 2026 is seen as providing significant support for strengthening Taiwan’s defense capabilities and the operational readiness of its armed forces.

The MND reaffirmed that it will continue to adjust defense strategies in response to evolving regional security dynamics, fully leverage existing Taiwan–US security cooperation mechanisms, and pragmatically advance force development and defense preparedness.

The objective, it stressed, is to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and throughout the broader Indo-Pacific region. (AT Network)
