ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono held a bilateral meeting with the British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey to discuss a number of issues related to plans for cooperation in developing technology in the marine and fisheries sector.
These include the modernization of aquaculture, and the latest developments in the development of Ocean Accounting, one of which is supported by the UK Blue Planet Fund.
“The development of Ocean Accounting with the Blue Planet Fund is still ongoing. “We hope that this jointly developed innovation can be completed soon because this is an important tool in implementing the blue economy program,” said Trenggono in an official broadcast, in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 5 2024.
There are 10 Ocean Accounting development pilot project locations in Indonesia supported by the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP).
GOAP is one of the programs running under the UK Blue Planet Fund portfolio.
The Ocean Accounting development area currently includes the Gili Matra, Banda, Padaido, Raja Ampat, West Waigeo, Anambas, Pieh, Aru, Sawu and Kapoposang Island conservation areas. Development will continue to be expanded to all Indonesian maritime areas.
Minister Trenggono invited the British Government through the Blue Planet Fund to support efforts to modernize fisheries cultivation in Indonesia. Because fish farming is a solution to protect ocean ecosystems from overfishing and environmentally unfriendly activities, this is also part of efforts to maintain global food security.
Cooperation between the two countries in the field of fisheries cultivation has been running from 2022 to 2023 carrying out anti-microbial resistance activities in fish cultivation activities.
This collaboration strengthens the testing laboratory at the Fish and Environmental Health Testing Center owned by the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
Apart from that, the discussion between the two discussed plans for cooperation in developing satellites and data processing for monitoring marine and fisheries resources, modernizing fishing vessels.
British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey confirmed that he fully supports the completion of this technological innovation and is ready to follow up on potential collaboration. (AT Network)
