ASIATODAY.ID, NEW YORK — The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the deadly incidents that claimed the lives of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The fatalities occurred after an explosion struck a UNIFIL position on 29 March, followed by another blast targeting a logistics convoy the next day. Five additional peacekeepers were injured in the attacks.

In recent weeks, a series of incidents have impacted UNIFIL positions amid escalating hostilities along the Blue Line, intensifying concerns over the safety of peacekeeping forces operating in the region.

In an official statment on April 1, 2026, the Security Council expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the fallen personnel, as well as to the Government of Indonesia and the United Nations. Council members also extended their wishes for a full and speedy recovery to those injured.

Paying tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of peacekeepers worldwide, the Council reaffirmed its full support for UNIFIL and acknowledged the vital contributions of troop-contributing countries.

The Council urged all parties to ensure the safety, security, and freedom of movement of UNIFIL personnel, in accordance with international law, and to refrain from actions that could place peacekeepers at risk.

Reiterating a fundamental principle, Council members stressed that peacekeepers must never be targeted under any circumstances.

They also called on the United Nations to conduct a thorough investigation through UNIFIL and to keep troop-contributing countries informed, in line with Security Council Resolutions 2518 (2020) and 2589 (2021).

Furthermore, the Council urged all parties to fully implement Resolution 1701 (2006), reaffirming its strong commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and unity. (AT Network)
