ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Marine Corps of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) Navy and US Marines held the Keris Marine Exercise on November 23-December 11 in Antarlina, Central Jampang, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, Indonesia.
The Keris Marine Exercise (Keris MAREX) is a bilateral exercise between the US Marine Corps and the Indonesian Navy Marine Corps which aims to promote military interoperability and maritime domain awareness, strengthen cooperation, and develop the military capabilities of participating units.
In 2022, US marines from Marine Rotational Force – Southeast Asia (MRF-SEA) participated in the inaugural Keris MAREX exercise, and returned to Indonesia this year to enhance joint capacity building and interoperability.
Approximately 150 members of the US Marine Corps and 150 members of the Indonesian Navy Marine Corps will take part in Keris MAREX this year to jointly improve coastal defense, shooting training, multi-crew weapons and unmanned combined air defense system capabilities. Participants will also interact with the community, as well as exchange experts to strengthen their shared commitment to regional security and cooperation.
“Keris Marine Exercise 2023 is an important opportunity for the Marine Rotational Force – Southeast Asia where we take part in jungle warfare exercises in Indonesia. This is more than just practice; “This is an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the Indonesian Marines and strengthen our joint capabilities,” said MRF-SEA Commander Colonel Siverts in a statement broadcast by the US Embassy.
Keris MAREX 23 is the first training exercise for the I Marine Expeditionary Force in Indonesia in 2023.
Head of the Marine Corps Information Service, Colonel Marine, Bambang Dillianto, said that at the end of the exercise Indonesia and America would jointly celebrate the birthdays of KORMAR and the US Marines.
“In a training situation full of excitement on the field, this is a valuable opportunity that we must make the most of. “We hope that in the future the relationship between the Marine Corps between the two countries will become even closer and support each other in facing complex problems in the future,” he added.
This year’s exercise will end with a platoon level infantry exercise to demonstrate the joint combat capabilities and friendship between Kormar and US Marines. (AT Network)
