ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is accelerating its expansion in Indonesia, strengthening the country’s emerging position as a regional electric mobility hub with the launch of three new electric motorcycles and plans for local assembly in Subang, West Java, by 2027.
The move highlights VinFast’s long-term commitment to Indonesia, where rapid electric vehicle adoption, industrial development, and government support for clean transportation are creating new opportunities for global automotive investment.
VinFast introduced three electric motorcycle models — Viper, Feliz II, and Evo — as part of its strategy to establish a stronger footprint in Indonesia’s growing electric mobility market.
The company is not only focusing on vehicle sales but also developing an integrated electric vehicle ecosystem through dealership expansion, battery swapping infrastructure, charging solutions, and after-sales services.
“We are not only introducing electric vehicles, but also building an ecosystem that enables consumers to transition more easily toward zero-emission mobility,” said Vo Thi Cam Tu, Managing Director of VinFast E-scooter Overseas Market, during the launch event in Jakarta.
She added that the establishment of 20 official dealerships across Indonesia, supported by battery swapping networks and customer services, represents an important milestone in VinFast’s regional expansion strategy.
Indonesia Emerges as Southeast Asia’s EV Investment Hub
Indonesia has become one of the most strategic markets for electric vehicle development in Southeast Asia, driven by its large consumer base, expanding industrial sector, and position as one of the world’s largest holders of nickel reserves — a critical resource for EV battery production.
The country’s ambition to develop an integrated electric vehicle ecosystem has attracted global manufacturers seeking to establish production bases and strengthen their supply chains in Asia.
VinFast’s expansion comes amid increasing competition among international automotive companies looking to capture future demand in Indonesia, the region’s largest economy and automotive market.
Subang Facility Marks Shift Toward Local Manufacturing
As an initial step, VinFast electric motorcycles entering Indonesia will be imported as completely built-up (CBU) units.
However, the company has confirmed plans to begin local assembly operations at its planned production facility in Subang, West Java, in 2027.
The localization strategy reflects Indonesia’s broader industrial policy to move beyond vehicle imports by developing domestic manufacturing capabilities, encouraging technology transfer, and creating new opportunities across the automotive supply chain.
The planned facility is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s role in the regional electric mobility landscape, supporting local assembly, component industries, and related services.
New Electric Motorcycles Target Indonesia’s Urban Consumers
VinFast’s three electric motorcycle models are designed to address different segments of Indonesia’s rapidly growing urban mobility market.
The Viper targets younger consumers with a sporty design, while the Feliz II and Evo are positioned as practical electric vehicles for everyday transportation.
All three models are equipped with BLDC in-wheel electric motors producing 5,200 watts of power.
The Viper and Feliz II can reach maximum speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour, while the Evo reaches up to 80 kilometers per hour.
Each model features dual battery slots supporting two 1.5 kWh LFP batteries.
The Evo offers a claimed range of up to 150 kilometers on a full charge, while the Viper and Feliz II provide approximately 145 kilometers of range.
Battery Ecosystem Supports Wider EV Adoption
To accelerate adoption, VinFast offers flexible ownership options, allowing customers to either purchase batteries or subscribe to a battery rental program.
The company also provides battery exchange services through V-GREEN, enabling users to replace depleted batteries through its swapping network.
As part of the launch program, customers receive free battery swapping services for one year, with a maximum of 20 exchanges per month.
The three models are also supported by vehicle warranties of up to four years, with additional battery warranties according to applicable terms.
VinFast Strengthens Asia’s Electric Mobility Transformation
VinFast’s expansion into Indonesia reflects the growing importance of Southeast Asia in the global electric vehicle transition.
With local production plans, infrastructure development, and ecosystem investment, the company aims to position Indonesia as a key market in its international growth strategy.
