ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government encourages the exchange of knowledge, research, innovation and water resource management technology together with other countries at the 10th World Water Forum which will take place on 18-25 May 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali.
One of the topics raised was the development of green energy-based infrastructure to support the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target in 2060.
Daily Chair of the National Committee Organizing the 10th World Water Forum and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing of Indonesia, Basuki Hadimuljon said that in developing and providing infrastructure, his party prioritizes the principle of a sustainable environment by optimizing all existing potential.
“One of them is strengthening the utilization of 187 existing dams and 61 new dams built from 2015 to 2024. This is to provide renewable electrical energy from hydropower and solar power and develop Waste to Energy processing projects,” said Basuki in his statement, quoted Monday, 6 May 2024 in Jakarta.
Furthermore, Basuki revealed that the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is developing waste-to-energy processing to utilize methane gas produced from waste as an alternative energy source which has been implemented in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan and Banjarbakula, South Kalimantan.
“We also apply the Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) method, such as at the Tritih Lor Integrated Waste Processing Site in Cilacap Regency, Central Java, Cicukang Holis in Bandung City, Kersiman Kertalangu, Padangsambian Kaja, and Tahura in Denpasar City, Bali,” said Basuki.
Apart from that, to provide raw water and overcome drought, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is implementing Hydro Powered Water Pump technology, namely a water pump that is driven by the rotating power of a water-powered turbine, without going through transformation into electric power. This technology is very simple because it is operated without using electrical energy sources or other fuels, so people can easily operate it.
The application of Hydro Powered Water Pump technology has been implemented and well received in Temanggung, Magelang and Pacitan, Humbang Hasundutan, Sekampung Dam and Pidekso Dam.
In line with the development of research and technology in the field of water resources, Deputy for Development Policy at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Mego Pinandito, said that his party had also created several schemes to invite collaboration and cooperation between developed and developing countries in the World Water agenda. 10th Forum.
One of them is how to deal with climate change related to water resources management through international scale research programs.
“We see that the role of research and innovation is important to find solutions to overcome the world’s water crisis. “We cannot deny that climate change has a huge effect on human development and security,” said Mego.
At the 10th World Water Forum, BRIN will also introduce various technological research related to water resources. Some of these include the Prototype Program House in the field of hydrometeorological and climate disaster monitoring technology, the development of an intelligent system for early warning of floods in the Bekasi River Basin called SIAGA (River Water Level Monitoring Information System and Natural Symptoms).
Another research being developed is a hybrid wetland system with adsorbents to treat pollution loads from the textile industry. Then, to welcome the event, BRIN will also launch the SIDANAU application which contains information on lakes in Indonesia.
“The hope is of course that we and countries in the world can learn from each other about technological innovations that are very likely to be implemented by each country,” concluded Mego.
Target Indonesia
Previously, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment and Chair of the National Committee Organizing the 10th World Water Forum (WWF), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, revealed 4 targets to be achieved from this international forum.
First, the establishment of the Center of Excellence for Climate and Water Resilience.
Second, holding the 10th World Water Forum could result in the formation of a working group for Integrated Water Resources Management for Small Islands.
Third, it is also hoped that this forum will establish World Lakes Day.
Fourth, this forum is aimed at producing a number of other concrete projects.
For your information, the 10th World Water Forum has been agreed to be held from 18 May to 25 May 2024 in Bali.
