2023 Indonesian Songket Weaving Men’s and Women’s Grand Final Produces National Cultural Ambassadors

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Men’s and Women’s Grand Final Night of Songket Weaving was held at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, Monday, December 18 2023.

Founder of the Indonesian Songket Tenun Tenun Foundation (PPTSI) and chairman of the jury, Anna Mariana, emphasized that with the various assessment criteria, the winners can become ambassadors of the nation with character.

Providing political knowledge is something new in the Indonesian Songket Weaving Boys and Girls event in its third year of implementation. According to Anna, this is in line with the increasing enthusiasm of young people for politics

Regarding the vision and mission of implementing Putra Putri Weaving Songket Indonesia, Anna emphasized that this event aims to encourage and provide solutions for regions in Indonesia to be able to preserve, develop and advance their respective cultures.

In this event, Muhammad Gerhan Lantara from Lampung and Ida Ayu Gabriella from East Java were selected as the 2023 Songket Weaving Boys and Girls.

When met after the grand final event, the two winners expressed their hopes for the young generation in Indonesia.

“My hope is that the younger generation can increase their knowledge and awareness of wastra fabric, especially woven and songket, that wastra is a cultural heritage that we must preserve,” said Gerhan.

“And we as the younger generation must also be able to increase our knowledge about weaving and songket and pass on the wealth of weaving and songket in Indonesia,” said Gabriella.
