ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) officially announced the change of the name of the AFF Cup tournament to the ASEAN Cup. This name change was conveyed via an upload on AFF social media on Thursday, February 29 2024.
“AFF and Mitsubishi Electric, the main partner of the ASEAN Championship, today launched a new logo and brand identity for the event,” wrote the AFF on their official website.
As part of the rebranding, the main competition in Southeast Asia previously known as the AFF Cup has also been renamed ASEAN Cup 2024. The name change was also followed by the launch of a new logo used to welcome the 15th edition of this tournament on November 23 – 21 next December.
The updated ASEAN Cup 2024 logo consists of three main graphic elements – the ASEAN Cup trophy, the Mitsubishi Electric Cup name, the new AFF Unity Weave and the tournament name, all covered in the shield.
The new Unity Weave features a pattern of intersecting bushels of rice, the region’s most important staple and the central icon of ASEAN’s official logo. This logo is designed in the five colors of the various flags of ASEAN countries, symbolizing the unity and bonds of the twelve AFF member associations that are knit together in the spirit of competition.
AFF President, Khiev Sameth, said that it is hoped that the change in the name and logo of the AFF Cup will be accepted by fans.
“Through the cooperative efforts and joint efforts of Mitsubishi Electric, our Commercial Partners, SPORTFIVE, and Member Associations, we will continue to provide unforgettable experiences to our fans and present another record-breaking ASEAN Cup later this year that will be the pride of the entire region we have a population of 660 million people,” said Khiev Sameth.
The 2024 ASEAN Cup is also planned to be attended by the Indonesian national team. The drawing for the 2024 ASEAN Cup will be held on May 21 in Hanoi, Vietnam. (ATN)
