ASIATODAY.ID, GYEONGJU — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, called for stronger global cooperation to combat poverty and hunger, emphasizing that artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies are key drivers for achieving food self-sufficiency and improving people’s welfare. The statement was delivered during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) Session 2 at the Hwabaek International Convention Centre (HICO), Gyeongju, on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

President Prabowo underscored that Indonesia is entering a new era of technological advancement, with AI playing a crucial role in accelerating poverty alleviation.

“We are entering an era marked by rapid technological progress, particularly in artificial intelligence. We must ensure that these advances directly benefit our people,” said President Prabowo.

He reaffirmed that eradicating poverty and hunger remains Indonesia’s top national priority and stressed that the government is focusing all efforts toward these urgent goals through the strategic use of modern technologies.

“We believe that artificial intelligence can bring significant benefits in our efforts to eliminate poverty and hunger,” he stated.

President Prabowo also highlighted Indonesia’s tangible progress in applying AI to the agricultural sector. Through precision and modern farming techniques, Indonesia has successfully achieved self-sufficiency in rice and corn production, far ahead of its initial four-year target.

“With the support of AI and advanced technology, we have boosted agricultural output to the highest level in Indonesia’s history since independence,” he noted.

Beyond food security, President Prabowo emphasized the need for international cooperation to curb transnational crimes such as smuggling, corruption, drug trafficking, and online gambling, which have caused major economic losses.

“Indonesia loses around 8 billion US dollars annually due to capital outflows caused by online gambling,” the President revealed.

He further affirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening digital education and skills among citizens and empowering small businesses as part of Indonesia’s broader economic transformation.

“We are ready to actively participate in all APEC initiatives aimed at advancing technology, education, and public health capacity,” said President Prabowo.

Concluding his remarks, President Prabowo emphasized that mastering technology is vital for national progress and can only be achieved through close regional collaboration.

“We must take control of our technological future. Through cooperation within APEC, I am confident that we can achieve this goal,” he concluded. (AT Network)
