Cargo Ship Alexindo 8 Burns in Batam Waters

ASIATODAY.ID, BATAM – The Alexindo 8 cargo ship carrying dozens of containers caught fire in Batu Ampar waters, Batam, Riau Islands, Wednesday, February 21 2024 afternoon.

There were no casualties in this incident. A total of 15 crew members were rescued by a passing fishing boat.

The fire incident on the Alexindo 8 cargo ship occurred when the ship was anchoring in Batu Ampar waters. The fire was first seen in the kitchen. The cause of the fire is thought to have come from an electrical cable connection on the roof of the ship. The fire quickly spread to the steering room and crew room

Ships from Search and Rescue, the Indonesian Navy and the Police were deployed to extinguish the fire. After fighting for about 2 hours, the fire was finally extinguished.

Deputy Commander of Patrol Ship Parikesit 7009, AKP Agung Pribadi, said that the Alexindo 8 ship had just loaded containers from Batu Ampar Port. These cargo goods will be brought to Jakarta via the Sunda Kelapa port.
