ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Plans for joint venture cooperation between PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA) and Singapore Airlines will begin soon. This is because the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) has approved the plan.
Quoted from the official statement from Singapore Airlines on the company’s official website, Monday, July 8 2024, with this CCCS approval, the two airlines can deepen their strategic partnership in broader commercial activities which will provide greater benefits for both airlines, as well as Indonesia and Singapore.
“This collaboration could take the form of revenue sharing on joint routes between the two countries, coordinating flight schedules to offer tourists more choice and seamless connectivity between Singapore and Indonesia and beyond, and exploring joint sales and marketing initiatives that provide greater value for customers of both airlines,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines have signed an agreement to deepen their partnership in May 2023. Since then, the two companies have carried out various initiatives, including giving GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer members the option to earn and redeem miles on codeshare routes.
GIAA and Singapore Airlines have currently codeshared on various flights, including between Singapore and cities in Indonesia such as Bali, Jakarta, Medan and Surabaya, as well as on long-haul routes between Singapore and Johannesburg, London (Heathrow) and Mumbai.
Garuda Indonesia President Director, Irfaniaputra said, this marked significant progress towards the company’s commitment to improving service quality and expanding the Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines network through a deeper partnership.
“The joint venture initiative we are currently preparing is one strategy to ensure broad value creation for our loyal customers. Having regulatory approval as the first step in a commercial agreement will provide more opportunities to develop well-executed strategic ideas,” said Irfan in the official statement.
Furthermore, Irfan hopes that this joint venture agreement can provide smooth services for passengers with more flight schedule choices and ease in obtaining and exchanging mileage. Apart from that, this collaboration can also produce concrete actions to contribute to increasing Indonesian tourism activities. This will later support the progress of post-pandemic economic recovery.
Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines CEO, Goh Choon Phong said, the strong strategic partnership between the two airlines has enabled them to expand codeshare services over the past few years, offering customers more flight choices.
Phong said, with CCCS approval, his party is ready to deepen collaboration in a wider range of commercial activities.
“This partnership underlines the commitment of both airlines to improve connectivity between Indonesia and Singapore and beyond, increase business and leisure travel, and contribute to economic growth,” said Phoong. (AT Network)
