ASIATODAY.ID, XIAMEN – Indonesia has reaffirmed its readiness to strengthen industrial cooperation with BRICS countries in response to global transformation challenges. This commitment was conveyed by Indonesian Vice Minister of Industry, Faisol Riza, during the BRICS PartNIR Opening Ceremony in Xiamen, China, on September 16, 2025.
The prestigious event is part of the BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) 2025, carrying the theme “Unlocking the Potential of BRICS Cooperation for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization.”
Indonesia Pushes Investment, Technology, and Global Market Access
Indonesia’s participation in the forum underscores the government’s strong commitment to promoting inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-driven industrialization. The BRICS platform also opens wider opportunities for investment, technology collaboration, and global market access for Indonesian manufacturing products.
“In the midst of global transformation driven by digitalization, green transition, and shifting international value chains, BRICS cooperation through PartNIR comes at the right time and has become increasingly significant,” said Faisol.
BRICS and the Vision of Making Indonesia 4.0
According to the Vice Minister, Indonesia’s involvement in BRICS aligns with Making Indonesia 4.0, the national roadmap to strengthen manufacturing competitiveness through digital adoption and innovation-driven economic development.
He also highlighted the relevance of the forum with the Rio de Janeiro Declaration, which emphasizes strengthening Global South cooperation to achieve inclusive and sustainable global governance.
“Industrialization must go hand in hand with inclusivity, fairness, and sustainability, while ensuring that the voices of developing nations help shape the future of industry and global supply chains,” he stressed.
Faisol further noted that manufacturing remains the backbone of Indonesia’s economy. In the second quarter of 2025, the non-oil and gas manufacturing sector grew 5.60 percent year-on-year, outpacing national economic growth of 5.12 percent, and contributed 16.92 percent to GDP.
To strengthen this sector, the government has introduced the New National Industrial Strategy (SBIN), built on four key pillars:
1. Accelerating resource downstreaming, particularly nickel, copper, and bauxite, to produce higher value-added products and attract investment.
2. Developing green industry, supporting the national net zero emission 2060 target through clean energy transition, circular economy, and low-carbon industrial zones.
3. Industrial digitalization via Making Indonesia 4.0, adopting Industry 4.0 technologies to enhance productivity, innovation, and competitiveness.
4. Strengthening industrial human resources through vocational education and digital learning platforms to produce skilled, adaptive workers.
“With these four pillars, Indonesia is committed to building smart manufacturing by expanding the adoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and cloud computing. For us, smart manufacturing is not only about efficiency but also resilience, sustainability, and inclusivity,” Faisol explained.
BRICS Collaboration in Research, Clean Energy, and Pharmaceuticals
Echoing this, Tri Supondy, Director General of Industrial Resilience, Regionalization, and International Industrial Access (KPAII), emphasized that Indonesia is driving the development of a future-oriented industrial ecosystem through advanced material research, renewable energy utilization, and digital industry expansion.
“Collaboration with BRICS nations will accelerate research, innovation, and knowledge-sharing to support the global industrial transformation toward a green and inclusive economy,” Tri stated.
The pharmaceutical and medical device industries also received significant attention. Indonesia still faces dependence on imported raw materials and limited capacity in biologic medicines, making BRICS cooperation highly strategic in strengthening domestic capabilities.
Indonesia Ready to Play a Key Role in Global Industry
Tri reaffirmed Indonesia’s readiness to play an active role in BRICS cooperation in the era of the New Industrial Revolution.
“Together with BRICS partners, we have the knowledge, resources, and capacity to shape a greener, more inclusive, and innovation-based industrial future. Indonesia is ready to take on a leading role in advancing BRICS partnership to deliver shared progress for all,” he concluded. (AT Network)
