ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia issued Indonesia’s official position at the International Summit on Peace in Ukraine at Switzerland, on 15-16 June 2024.
Head of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Strategic Support Bureau, Rolliansyah Soemirat, stated that the main view expressed by Indonesia was that conflict resolution must involve the parties to the conflict.
“Indonesia has also conveyed that international law, including international humanitarian law and the UN Charter, must be enforced, not only in Ukraine but also in Gaza,” he said in an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted on Tuesday, June 18 2024.
He said that Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi had appointed the Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland, Ngurah Swajaya, to attend as Special Envoy at the meeting.
“The presence of Special Envoy Indonesia reflects Indonesia’s strong commitment to upholding international law and the UN Charter,” he said.
Furthermore, he emphasized that Indonesia believes that disputes must be resolved through negotiation and negotiation. Apart from that, he also stated that Indonesia considers the ‘Joint Communique’ to be more effective if it is prepared in an inclusive and balanced manner.
As is known, the International Summit on Peace in Ukraine was held at the Burgenstock resort, Switzerland, on June 15-16 2024. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) said that the country had invited more than 160 delegates at the level of heads of state and government to the summit. The delegation is representative of around 120 countries, including the G7, G20, BRICS, European Union, and a number of international organizations, especially the UN, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe. Invitations have also been extended to the Vatican and the Patriarch of Constantinople.
The Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that representatives of 92 countries were present, including 57 heads of state and government, as well as 8 international organizations, at the location of the International Summit on Peace in Ukraine near Lake Lucerne.
Turkey and Saudi Arabia said that if progress was to be made, the meeting would require Russia’s participation, while Russia did not participate in the event. (ATN)
