ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The world lion dance sports championship is ready to be held by the Executive Board of the Indonesian Lion Dance Sports Federation (PB FOBI) at the Britama Arena, Mahaka Square, Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, 17-19 May.
A total of 550 athletes from 10 countries are confirmed to be ready to participate in this event.
Chairman of PB FOBI, Edy Kusuma, said that the world championship with the theme “President’s Cup: First FOBI World Lion and Dragon Dance Championship 2024” brought together lion dance champion clubs from Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Taiwan , Thailand and Australia.
“This championship is the first activity held by PB FOBI since being accepted as a member of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) on February 20 2013,” said Edy at the PB FOBI Secretariat in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 17 2024.
This world-class event will compete for three different trophies from three types of competition groups, namely the first group will compete for the President’s Cup through the Southern Lion Dance competition.
For the second group, it is the Northern Lion Dance competition which will compete for the Minister of Youth and Sports Cup. Finally, the Dragon Dance match will compete for the Minister of Defense Cup.
In this championship, PB FOBI encouraged 180 athletes from Indonesia from a number of lion dance clubs to make Indonesia proud on the world stage.
Edy added, to make the international agenda a success, the committee has prepared supporting facilities and infrastructure, such as accommodation, transportation and an international jury of 22 people.
The judges were invited from a number of countries such as Indonesia, totaling 13 people and 9 from other countries, and were certified international judges. (ATN)
