ASIATODAY.ID, JEDDAH – On the occasion of commemoration of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hussein Ibrahim Taha called for global unity to fight the growing threat.

“Today is an opportunity to stand with the victims of Islamophobia,” said Ibrahim Taha while condemning acts of violence, harassment and intimidation fueled by hatred and religious fanaticism.

Taha also called on “all interested parties” to take concrete steps to combat “evil forces” disrupting peaceful coexistence between religions.

He appreciated the 2022 UN General Assembly resolution designating March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, calling it an important step in addressing incitement, discrimination and violence.

Taha also expressed concern over the growing influence of hatred and intolerance. He highlighted a worrying trend in which Islamophobia and xenophobia are becoming commonplace, citing cases of harassment of religious leaders, desecration of books and holy places and attacks on places of worship that are often condoned by authorities.

Taha called on the international community to join forces and take concrete action against Islamophobia.

Furthermore, Taha emphasized the importance of increasing tolerance, understanding and harmony between religions in order to build a world of coexistence and more peace. (SPA)
