10th World Water Forum: Time for the World to Move Together to Overcome the Climate Crisis

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia will host the 10th World Water Forum. This event will be the last and largest international meeting held by President Joko Widodo during his presidency.

Through this momentum, Indonesia took the initiative to enliven the event by holding a High Level Conference which was attended by 43 Heads of State/Government and four International Organizations, as well as Ministers in charge of the water sector from 193 countries.

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who is also the chairman of the 10th World Water Forum, said that through this forum, it is hoped that world leaders can collaborate with each other in dealing with water issues.

“Through this forum we have the opportunity to collaborate with all state leaders to address water issues, especially the climate crisis, resilience and water resource management. “Stakeholders will convey their ideas which of course prioritize sustainability and innovation,” said Coordinating Minister Luhut, quoted on Friday, March 8 2024.

The climate crisis is a common concern between countries, how to find solutions to the impacts of the climate crisis. As is known, as of July 2023 the highest global average temperature in history will rise 1.5 degrees Celsius warmer.

The climate crisis is estimated to cost the global economy $23 trillion by 2050. Therefore, important issues that need to be discussed between countries are the impact of the climate crisis, food security, water security, rural development and poverty.

For your information, through the 10th World Water Forum, Indonesia is bringing up three main issues, namely water and climate security, integrated water resource management on small islands, and World Lakes Day. 50,000 participants are expected to attend the Forum. This body consists of the Government, members of parliament, local government, watershed authorities, the business community and youth. (AT Network)
