ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency confirmed that as many as 22 countries have been confirmed as attending the Indonesia–Africa Parliamentary Forum (IAPF).
“This activity will be the first inter-parliamentary forum held between Indonesia and African countries since the Asia-Africa Conference in 1955 and the historic Non-Aligned Movement Conference in 1961,” said Chairman of the Indonesian Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency, Fadli Zon in his statement in Jakarta, Friday, August 30 2024.
Of the 22 countries that have confirmed that they will send delegations, it is recorded that 9 parliament chairs will be present to lead their respective delegations.
IAPF is one of a series of Indonesia-Africa Forums which will be held in Bali on 1-3 September 2024. The Indonesian parliamentary forum with African countries takes the theme “Forging Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Partnership for Development”.
According to Fadli Zon, the forum will be an important achievement for Indonesian foreign policy, especially in the context of global south cooperation.
“It is time for the revival of countries in the Southern Hemisphere to be strengthened through cooperation mechanisms. “Not only cooperation at the executive level, but also more comprehensive cooperation, including between Indonesian and African parliaments,” said Fadli Zon.
Fadli explained that with the theme “Forging Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Partnership for Development”, the first Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum (IAPF) will not only serve as a stepping stone to perfect collaboration between Indonesian and African parliamentarians, but is also expected to produce a new commitment that emphasizes a comprehensive plan to promote long-term development cooperation between the two parties.
“As well as reaffirming the commitment between the two of them to work together in strengthening economic, political and social connectivity between Indonesia and African countries,” he said.
Fadli also said that Indonesia and Africa both have enormous economic potential. If both parties can work together to take advantage of these opportunities, it is hoped that this can encourage equitable development for the citizens of both parties.
“Sectors that have the potential for collaboration between Indonesia and Africa include the economy, health, agriculture, energy, communications and technology,” he added. (AT Network)
