ASIATODAY.ID, MAGELANG – On the 12th day, as many as 500 participants of the Temporary Pabbajja Samanera held Thudong starting from Ngawen Temple, Mendut Temple, Pawon Temple and ending at Borobudur Temple.
Thudong is a meditation procession thinking about the noble qualities of Gautama Buddha.
Director of Indonesian Buddhist Affairs and Education, Nyoman Suriadarma, said that this year, for the first time, the Pabbbajja Samanera Sementara utilized 4 activity points for spiritual activities starting from Ngawen Temple, Mendut Temple, Pawon Temple to Borobudur Temple.
“We really support this activity because this is a form of our religious efforts or existence as Buddhists, apart from training so many Pabbajja Samanera Sementara participants,” explained Nyoman on Wednesday, December 27 2023.
According to Nyoman, this activity also revives and revives existing temples. Of course, it is hoped that this will create a perspective for the world community that this is a place that can be used as an example for spiritual activities.
“In the future we will look for new temples. If we want to make a series of spiritual journeys in Central Java, we can start from Sewu Temple, Sojiwan Temple, Ngawen, Mendut, Pawon and Borobudur,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chair of the Pabbajja Samanera Committee, Fatmawati, said that apart from being spiritual, the implementation of Tudong which started from Ngawen Temple was aimed at promoting Indonesian cultural tourism to the world community.
“This year we are appointing Ngawen Temple as a new tourist destination so that it can be promoted throughout Indonesia and the world that there is Ngawen Temple which is on the same line as Mendut Temple, Pawon Temple and Borobudur Temple, which is a new spiritual path,” he said.
The General Chairperson of the Indonesian Mahanikaya Buddhist Religious Council (MBMI) Agus Jaya said a similar thing.
“Ngawen Temple is in a straight line from the historical site. In the future, the Indonesian Mahanikaya Buddhist Religious Council will look for the next temple to carry out the Tudong tradition. “Today we as Indonesians are proud that we have beautiful temples, and we will promote these temples both locally and abroad,” he concluded.
