ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (CNI) Group, a nickel mining company based in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, is committed to producing green products in the nickel industry in Indonesia.
To realize this, PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama and PT Padma Energi Indonesia Group Titis Sampurna through their subsidiary have signed a Joint Venture Agreement for the Construction of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminals and Supporting Infrastructure in order to ensure the availability of gas supply for Gas Power Plants which will be operated by PLN in Kolaka. This agreement was signed by both parties in Jakarta, Friday (18/11/2022).
Later, the electrical energy from the PLTG will be supplied to the Ceria Nugraha Indotama nickel smelter.
General Manager of Business Development Ceria Nugraha Indotama, Aldo Namora explained, this LNG terminal will serve PLN’s gas supply for the operation of a Barge Mounted Power Plant with a capacity of 2×60 MW.
“Barge Mounted Power Plant 2×60 MW was built by PT. PAL in Surabaya and will be operated by Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of PLN,” Aldo explained.
According to Aldo, one Barge Mounted Power Plant unit has now been completed and started to be operated by PLN, while the second unit will be completed in April 2024 and will soon be mobilized to Kolaka, the location of the Ceria Nugraha Indotama smelter.
The Ceria Nugraha Indotama and Titis Sampurna LNG Terminals have a total capacity of 24 mmscfd and will be built on an area of 7.5 hectares within the Mining Business Permit Area and the Ceria Nugraha Indotama Special Terminal.
“The construction of this LNG terminal is part of our commitment with PLN to provide reliable electricity supply to the Ceria Nugraha Indotama smelter,” he explained.
Previously, in 2018, Ceria Nugraha Indotama and PLN signed a Power Purchase Agreement with a total capacity of 350 MW for the Ceria Nugraha Indotama smelter, and will add another 350 MW of capacity so that Ceria Nugraha Indotama’s total electricity usage reaches 700 MW.
PLN supplies electricity to Ceria Nugraha Indotama through the Kolaka smelter substation with electricity sourced from the Poso hydropower plant and several other renewable energy sources.
“With the use of PLN’s electricity sourced from green energy, there is no carbon footprint for electricity generation from coal in the production process of the Ceria Nugraha Indotama smelter, so that the resulting nickel processed product will have a very low carbon footprint/carbon emission compared to processed products. other nickel smelters that operate using electricity from the PLTU,” said Aldo.
This is in line with the commitment to net zero emissions proclaimed by the Government of Indonesia in 2050 and the spirit of transition towards renewable and green energy echoed by the B20 and G20 Summits. (AT Network)
