Indonesia and UAE Agree to Expand Energy and Mineral Cooperation

ASIATODAY.ID, ABU DHABI – The governments of Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in the energy and mineral resources sector, starting from exchanging information and policies, collaboration between business entities, project financing, clean technology transfer to resource development man.

This collaboration was expressed through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia and the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazrouei. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding was witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Saturday, November 23 2024, in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

“We believe, with good synergy, Indonesia Money PEA can become a pioneer in transforming global energy,” said Bahlil after the signing.

Through UAE support, said Bahlil, Indonesia can accelerate the development of the energy sector by utilizing innovative technology and sustainable management of mineral resources. This is part of one of the manifestations of the Asta Cita program launched by President Prabowo, especially related to energy self-sufficiency and downstreaming.

“Through this Memorandum of Understanding, we are not only strengthening friendship, but creating concrete solutions in overcoming domestic and global energy challenges,” explained Bahlil.

Bahlil said that this collaboration could encourage collaboration between business entities from the two countries in the mineral supply chain sector, which includes integrated midstream and downstream processing and manufacturing.

“This collaboration is part of the development of new renewable energy, including decarbonization initiatives, reducing emissions, and developing oil and gas activities including upstream and downstream by encouraging low-emission technology and innovation,” he added.

In detail, the implementation of the cooperation contained in this Memorandum of Understanding includes sharing knowledge related to policies, strategies and regulations, opening up financing opportunities in the Carbon Capture Storage/Carbon Capture Utilization Storage (CCS/CCUS) project and developing innovative technology for biofuel and hydrogen, as well as increasing Human Resources competency in the energy sector.

According to Bahlil, this expansion of cooperation is in line with Indonesia’s big vision to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060. He is optimistic that support from the UAE can strengthen Indonesia’s position as a key player in the global energy sector.

With this collaboration, Indonesia and the UAE emphasize their commitment to not only adapt to changing times, but also lead a sustainable and inclusive energy transformation.
