ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia has reinforced its position in global agricultural trade by exporting 14,000 metric tons of palm-based livestock feed to New Zealand, reflecting rising international demand for sustainable feed ingredients and the country’s expanding plantation exports.
The shipment, consisting of Palm Kernel Expeller (PKE)—a high-fiber byproduct of the palm oil industry—was dispatched from Lampung Province after meeting New Zealand’s phytosanitary import requirements. Valued at approximately IDR20 billion (around US$1.2 million), the cargo also marks the debut of a new exporter from Lampung in the international market.
The Lampung Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Office said the shipment underwent inspection and certification to ensure full compliance with the importing country’s biosecurity and plant health standards.
“The export demonstrates that Lampung’s plantation commodities remain competitive in the global marketplace. We are committed to ensuring every shipment complies with international requirements, strengthening confidence in Indonesian agricultural products,” said Donni Muksydayan, head of the Lampung quarantine office on July 3, 2026.
PKE is widely used as an alternative ingredient for livestock feed, particularly in dairy and beef cattle production, due to its high fiber content and cost efficiency. Demand has continued to grow across major livestock-producing countries, making the commodity an increasingly important component of international agricultural supply chains.
Indonesia currently exports PKE to a broad range of destinations, including New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, China, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and the Philippines.
Lampung has become one of Indonesia’s leading PKE export hubs. In 2024, the province recorded 172 export shipments totaling approximately 569,000 tons, valued at IDR2.58 trillion. Exports climbed further in 2025 to 184 shipments with a combined volume of 1.34 million tons worth IDR3.12 trillion, highlighting stronger international demand for palm-derived feed products.
During the first six months of 2026, Lampung exported around 513,000 tons of PKE through 66 shipments, generating an estimated IDR1.17 trillion in export value. The figures suggest continued growth potential for the remainder of the year as global demand for affordable and efficient livestock feed remains robust.
Indonesia’s quarantine authority said it will continue facilitating international trade through inspections, monitoring, and the issuance of phytosanitary certificates, ensuring exported agricultural products comply with international standards while protecting market access.
The latest shipment underscores Indonesia’s broader strategy to diversify agricultural exports, expand access to overseas markets, and strengthen its role as a reliable supplier of value-added palm-based feed products to the global livestock industry. (AT Network)
