ASIATODAY.ID, FIUGGI – Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, attended the G7 Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting Outreach Session with Indo Pacific Partners in Fiuggi, Italy, 25-26 November 2024.
Indonesia’s presence at the G7 forum was at the invitation of the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, who also invited other countries in the Indo Pacific region, namely the Philippines, India and South Korea.
In his statement quoted from the MOFA broadcast, Sugiono conveyed Indonesia’s commitment under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto to improve people’s welfare, and at the same time contribute positively to the Indo Pacific region, through sustainable and inclusive development.
He also emphasized Indonesia’s consistency in making ASEAN a driving force for regional collaboration, as reflected in the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
In the midst of a world full of challenges, AOIP is aimed at creating a situation conducive to peace, stability and prosperity, through mutually beneficial cooperation.
“Indonesia hopes that all countries respect and support ASEAN’s views to ensure and encourage transparent and inclusive cooperation in the region,” said Sugiono.
Minister Sugiono also expressed his appreciation to the G7 for supporting and collaborating with ASEAN, through various ASEAN mechanisms.
As mandated by the constitution, Indonesia will continue to be a bridge builder between developed and developing countries. For this reason, Indonesia always encourages membership in inclusive multilateral forums, strengthening multilateralism, and coordination between regional and international organizations.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Sugiono also held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Ukraine and South Korea. With the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, a peace process was discussed to reach a resolution to the conflict in that country.
Meanwhile, with the South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono discussed strengthening a number of bilateral cooperation, including in the fields of defense, shipbuilding industry, fisheries and workforce training. (AT Network)
