ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) continues to expand the global reach of its fishery exports. Most recently, 34 Fish Processing Units (UPIs) have been officially approved to export to three key markets: Vietnam, South Korea, and Canada.
This includes 20 UPIs approved for Vietnam, 8 UPIs for South Korea, and 6 UPIs for Canada. The approvals were granted under a Bilateral Agreement on Fisheries Product Quality System Equivalence between Indonesia and the respective authorities in those countries.
“Following the Minister’s directive and in light of today’s dynamic global trade landscape, we must innovate—one of which is diversifying our export commodities and destination countries to boost export volume and support local economies,” stated Ishartini, Head of the Agency for Quality Control and Quarantine at MMAF, in an official release, quotes, July 11, 2025.
With these additional approvals, the total number of Indonesian companies now eligible to export to these countries is 611 UPIs to Vietnam, 667 UPIs to South Korea, 337 UPIs to Canada.
Ishartini further explained that this expansion is part of MMAF’s comprehensive export strategy, which includes: strengthening cross-sectoral cooperation, implementing nine types of quality certifications across the supply chain, conducting regular inspections and quality surveillance, enhancing laboratory capacity for quality testing, establishing international cooperation and mutual recognition of quality systems.
These efforts aim to position Indonesia as a leading global fisheries exporter, while ensuring that its products meet the highest international standards for safety, quality, and sustainability.
