Indonesia Quran Hour 2025: Istiqlal Resonates as the Qur’an Unites the Nation

Minister of Religious Affairs and Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, MA, during the 2025 Indonesia Quran Hour (IQH) on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Special

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Istiqlal Mosque once again became the epicenter of Indonesia’s largest Qur’anic movement through the 2025 Indonesia Quran Hour (IQH), a nationwide initiative encouraging Muslims to read, understand, and embody the teachings of the Qur’an simultaneously.

Initiated by Quran Cordoba and the Nur Quran Indonesia Foundation in 2017, the movement has continued to reignite the public’s love for the holy scripture.

Held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, the event gathered thousands of worshippers from across the country, creating an atmosphere of deep reverence through tilawah (recitation), tadabbur (reflection), and tausiyah (spiritual advice) led by religious scholars, renowned qari, and national Muslim figures.

Minister of Religious Affairs and Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, MA, underscored the vital role of Qur’anic propagation in nation-building.

“Whoever elevates the word of Allah, glorifies His name and His Book, will receive His protection,” he said in his remarks.

He further explained that Allah’s command to read the Qur’an in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 151 uses the fi’il mudhari’ form, signifying that the obligation to read and understand the Qur’an is continuous—far beyond ceremonial worship.

The Minister also highlighted the potential of Indonesia’s Qur’anic publishing industry, noting that national demand reaches 2 million copies per year, while domestic production currently supplies only about 400,000 copies.

“The paper of a mushaf is alive because of its verses. The Qur’an must be placed above all,” he emphasized.

“A Qur’anic Generation Builds the Best Community”

IQH founder Dr. Ir. Joni Rosadi highlighted three essential duties of Muslims toward the Qur’an: reading, understanding, and practicing it.

He urged the community to make IQH not merely an annual observance, but a daily habit.

“The simplest program is one hour with the Qur’an every day. That is where transformation begins,” he said.

He stressed that IQH is a dawah movement aimed at nurturing a Qur’anic generation—one that treats the Qur’an as a lifelong companion and intercessor in the hereafter.

Recitation, Reflection, and Prayer Fill Istiqlal with Emotion

The event opened with the recitation of Surah As-Saff by Ustaz Ahmad Komarudin, followed by prayers and reflections led by Ustadz Abu Rabbani, and heartfelt counsel from Ustadz Koh Dennis Lim, who shared his journey of guidance through the Qur’an.

The melodious recitations of Istiqlal Mosque’s qari deepened the spiritual atmosphere across Southeast Asia’s largest mosque.

As part of its commitment to expanding Qur’anic outreach nationwide, the committee distributed 1,000 free Cordoba mushafs to participants.

A touching moment unfolded on stage when STIKES Dharma Husada presented a free umrah gift to a Qur’an memorizer who had never made the pilgrimage before. This year’s recipient, Ragheb Ghalsyam, a graduate of Pesantren Rafah Bogor, demonstrated his memorization before the congregation.

A Movement to Spread Qur’anic Love Across the Archipelago

Indonesia Quran Hour 2025 reaffirmed that the Qur’an is a source of inspiration, spiritual strength, and unity for the nation. Through the theme “Uplift the Soul, Strengthen the Body,” IQH calls on Muslims to build Indonesia upon strong spiritual foundations and Qur’anic character.

With the support of scholars, reciters, public figures, and Qur’anic communities, IQH continues to grow as a national movement that expands access, deepens understanding, and strengthens the public’s love for the Qur’an. (AT Network)
