ASIATODAY.ID, MANAMA — Indonesia has once again delivered a strong message on the international stage.
Through the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP), Indonesia reaffirmed that Palestinian independence is not merely a diplomatic issue, but a moral and legal obligation under international law.
The statement was delivered by Syahul Aidi Maazat, Chair of BKSAP, during the General Debate of the 16th Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Manama, Bahrain, from 24 to 28 January 2026.
Speaking before Asian lawmakers, Syahul stressed that consistent and principled multilateralism—free from double standards—is essential to resolving global conflicts, particularly the prolonged injustice faced by the Palestinian people.
“Indonesia’s support for Palestine is a humanitarian commitment grounded in international law and the anti-colonial principles that form the foundation of our nation,” Syahul said on Friday, January 30, 2026.
He reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering position that the Palestinian people have the right to independence and self-determination, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a sovereign Palestinian state, in line with United Nations resolutions.
Syahul also highlighted Asia’s historical responsibility as the cradle of great civilizations to uphold intercultural dialogue and justice amid escalating global geopolitical tensions.
He urged Asian parliaments not to remain silent when fundamental principles of humanity and justice are violated.
Calling for Accountability and Humanitarian Access
During the Standing Committee on Political Affairs, BKSAP member Habib Idrus Salim Aljufri reinforced Indonesia’s stance by proposing the alignment of terminology in APA draft resolutions, including the use of the term “Israeli occupying authorities”, consistent with diplomatic practices at the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
He emphasized Indonesia’s call for:
– Immediate and unhindered humanitarian access for Palestinians
– An urgent ceasefire
– The enforcement of international accountability mechanisms for violations of international humanitarian law
“International cooperation must never become an instrument of political pressure, but rather a means to safeguard human dignity,” Habib Idrus stated.
Indonesia Strengthens Parliamentary Diplomacy in Asia
Meanwhile, in the Standing Committee on Budget and Planning, BKSAP member Samuel Wattimena underscored Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the financial sustainability of the APA.
He advocated greater transparency, performance-based indicators, and the use of digital technology in financial reporting to enhance the organization’s credibility and effectiveness.
Overall, Indonesia’s participation in the 16th APA session reaffirmed its role as a driving force in Asian parliamentary diplomacy, consistently promoting: Global justice, Respect for national sovereignty, Peaceful conflict resolution, And above all, the independence of Palestine
Guided by the spirit of unity in diversity, Indonesia continues to push for Asian parliaments to evolve beyond dialogue forums into moral forces that stand firmly with peoples still living under occupation. (AT Network)
