ASIATODAY.ID, SYDNEY – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy collaborated with Australian airline Qantas Airways to promote Wonderful Indonesia in the “Qantas – Best of Asia Day” activity which took place at the Qantas Campus Sydney, Australia, on March 12 2024.

The Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, in his statement in Jakarta, said that this collaboration was a great opportunity for Indonesia to establish itself as the number one tourist destination for the Australian people.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) recorded that around 1.37 million Australians would visit Indonesia in 2023. Meanwhile, as many as 1.26 million would choose to travel to New Zealand. This shows that Indonesia has risen in rank to become Australia’s main tourist destination for the first time in 50 years.

“Looking at the target number of Australian tourists set for 2024, which is around 1.3 million visitors, we feel it is necessary to introduce new destinations to the Australian people so that they can stay longer, spend more, and support sustainable tourism growth in Indonesia,” said Sandiaga. , quoted Monday, March 25 2024.

Indonesia’s participation in “Qantas – Best of Asia Day” is manifested in promotional activities for Super Priority Destinations around Bali, especially Yogyakarta, Lombok and Labuan Bajo with Bali as a hub. The focus on these three destinations is based on the interests of the Australian market, proximity to Bali (proximity), accessibility and attractions available in these destinations.

At the “Qantas – Best of Asia Day” event, Indonesia was present in three main segments, namely the Morning Tea Session where Indonesia was the main sponsor, as well as the Presentation and Expo sessions. Around 150 Qantas and JetStar agents came to the event. Other countries participating in the event include Korea, the Philippines, Hong Kong and India.

“This is a very good opportunity for Indonesia to promote the uniqueness and beauty of Indonesia to agents in Australia, and with our competitor countries participating in this event, we must not waste this opportunity,” said Sandiaga.

Director of Tourism Marketing for Asia – Pacific at the Ministry of Tourism, R. Wisnu Sindhutrisno, added that connectivity between Indonesia and Australia is served by various airlines from both countries from cities such as Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, as well as Melbourne and Sydney.

Indonesia’s national airline, Garuda Indonesia, also serves non-stop flights from Melbourne and Sydney to Denpasar and Jakarta.

“We are pleased that Qantas is already serving direct flights to Bali. However, we still encourage Qantas to open new routes to other cities in Indonesia, or collaborate with Indonesian airlines in terms of operational cooperation to reach destinations outside Bali. So, Australians can visit more beautiful destinations in Indonesia,” said Vishnu. (AT Network)
